There are a few things you might want to do.
1. Virus scan
2. Un install unnecessary programs
3. Format your hard drive
4. If it is a virus uninstall xp and then install it again (you can only do this 3 times with your serial # so keep this as a last resort) -

Before you do anything, back up your drivers and data to a CD!!
It gets harder and harder to find aging drivers, and many places charge to get them.
I use WINdrivers; excellent & free, from pc world here:
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fi...
Use the ‘back up all drivers’ for the first BU; that way you have them all.Data back-ups are separate items from system backups;
Data are things you have created or added to you unit with programs: letters, documents, pictures, music, etc. These should be done every other week or 1X per month.
Windows has a data backup built in, but I find it bulky & hard to use.
One decent B.U. application is ‘Cobain’: moderately easy to use & freeware.
Your 1st backup should be the ‘all’ data option as a baseline; after that use the ‘incremental’, which just adds new stuff to the baseline.
‘Cobain’ is here: http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/security/fwantispy.html
Once your ’stuff’ is backed up, then you can do the system overhaul it sounds like you want to do. Good luck.
One Response to “How do i recover my windows vista to a certain date?”
1. I’d try using “last known good configuration”.
a. Restart your computer
b. Immediately start click the F8 key and keep clicking until the Advanced Options Menu appears.
c. Select last known good configuration.
2. Open the “system restore”. Vista should create restore points each time you start your computer. Close all open programs.
a. Click start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore.
b. If the security dialog box appears click continue, or enter the administrator password > submit.
c. If you have no recent updates you’ll a dialog box with a system overview. Click next. Otherwise it will show two options: Recommended Restore or Choose Different Restore Point. Try recommended restore first and follow prompts. If it doesn’t work try using a different restore point and follow prompts.
d. You can also try running system restore in safe mode. After clicking F8 choose Safe Mode and follow system restore steps.
3. Last option is System Recovery from install disk.
a. Insert disk and restart computer (BIOS must be set to boot from CD/DVD as first option.)
b. From installation window click next
c. Click “repair your computer”
d. Click Vista > next
e. Try start up repair.
If above steps don’t work you might have no choice but a complete reformat/reinstall.
